Wax, Lipids & Balm
September 22, 2021 @ 8:45 am – 3:15 pm EDT
Why do our lips crack in colder seasons? No doubt, colder weather has a significant impact on our bodies, including our lips. Before we had access to a commercially available lip balm, people developed many ways to deal with chapped lips, including the use of earwax!
In the 1832 edition of the “American Frugal Housewife,” Lydia Maria Child observed that “Those who are troubled with cracked lips have found [the earwax] remedy successful when others have failed.”
Would you be willing to use earwax to cope with your cracked lips?
In this workshop, we won’t be using earwax to protect our lips – phew, that was close.
Instead, we will be experimenting with thermally conductive & insulating materials, from wool to metal to wax. After our experiments, we will turn our attention to the materials that make up lip balm and explore why they work.
Hope you can join us for this fun, sometimes gross, but educational workshop!
COVID Measures will be in place for this in-person workshop. It will be limited to small groups of 4-6 people. Please review our COVID Waiver before registering for this event.
All materials included.
