Our Atmosphere Earth Science Thursday

Today we will be learning about STEM trailblazer Eunice Foote, making paper straw rockets and starting the construction of our wind lift.

 

Materials Included

  • Paper Straw Rockets
  • Straws
  • Earth Science Booklet
  • Wind lift kit

Required Materials

  • Tape
  • Pencil

Optional Materials

  • Scissors
  • Small mallet or hammer to connect wind lift pieces

 

Earth Science Friday

Create a model of our earth’s layer’s!  Experiment with instant snow!  Learn about the sounds we make sound and the sounds we hear.  Learn how other animals communicate, navigate, hunt & stay safe with sound.  Students will learn about STEM trailblazer Inge Lehman and her discovery of the earth’s core.

  • Markers, crayons or pencil crayons
  • Glue
  • 250 ml of room temperature water
  • One empty cup
  • Food colouring is optional

Thursday Food Webs

Every plant and animal species, no matter how big or small, depends to some extent on another plant or animal species for its survival. In this session we will learn about food chains and how energy is transferred from one living thing to another via food.  We will learn about a soil food web focusing on earthworms and the important part they play in every day life.

Students will have the chance to dissect a paper earthworm specimen.  They will learn about the important work of STEM trailblazer Rachel Carson.

Small groups of 10, interactive, live online instruction.

Recommended age: 6-12 years old

Included Materials

  • Science Booklet pdf
  • Paper Earthworm Specimen

Required Materials

  • Glue Stick, White Glue or Clear Tape
  • Shallow dish or bowl
  • 1/4 tsp of pepper
  • Dish soap
