The Nervous System

April 2, 2020 By ScienceRiotGrrls

Our nervous system takes in information from our surroundings, allows communication within the body and controls our body functions. The brain, the spinal cord & neuron cells make up our nervous system! In this workshop you will introduced to the basic anatomy of our central & peripheral nervous systems.  You will make a paper model of the brain and learn about the different types of brains in different animals.  Learn about neuroscience STEM trailblazers, May-Britt Moser, Rachel Sarah Herz & Dr. Lorina Naci.

What does the fox say? What sound does a giraffe make?  What is sound?  How does it travel?

Create a model of the human ear!  Experiment with sound!  Learn about the sounds we make sound and the sounds we hear.  Learn how other animals communicate, navigate, hunt & stay safe with sound.  Students will learn about STEM trailblazer Dr Angela Stöger-Horwath.

Food Webs

April 2, 2020 By ScienceRiotGrrls

Every plant and animal species, no matter how big or small, depends to some extent on another plant or animal species for its survival. In this session we will learn about food chains and how energy is transferred from one living thing to another via food.  We will learn about a soil food web focusing on earthworms and the important part they play in every day life.

Students will have the chance to dissect a paper earthworm specimen.  They will learn about the important work of STEM trailblazer Rachel Carson.

Classes are limited to 10 students.  Paper materials can be picked up or mailed to you before the session.
